Champaner is situated in the Panchmahal district in Gujarat to the south of Pavagadh Hill. The hill rises to a height of 2600 ft, and it is made of reddish-yellow stone, which is considered an ancient rock formation in India. Winter is a pleasant time to visit Champaner as the temperature ranges from a minimum of 11°C to a maximum of 31°C. So December to February is the ideal time to travel to Champaner. The monsoon extends from June to September and gives relief from the summer heat.
At the base is the city of Champaner, and the hill station Pavagadh was built on a volcanic cone. The volcano had erupted 500 million years ago. With Champaner, the Pavagadh hill forms the Champaner-Pavagadh Archaeological Park, which is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it has an area of 3,280 acres.
