One of the best waterfalls in Cherrapunji to explore, the Wakaba falls is a tiered waterfall. It is about 170-190 m in height and provides a mesmerizing and panoramic view of the canyon around its surroundings. Located between Shillong and Cherrapunji, the beauty of this fall comes alive during the monsoon months as the water makes its way through huge boulders and vegetation in and around the canyon
The fall becomes completely invisible during winters with thin streams of water creating a pattern reminiscent of the strands of hair in criss cross pattern at the back of a woman’s head. Sometimes heavy mist envelops the entire canyon covering the falls with a dense layer. One needs to have a bit of luck and patience to witness its full glory. There is a legend associated with the waterfalls. There lived two fairies – one fair and one dark in this region. They would mingle with the regular people and lure men to visit them by hypnotizing them. They say that the men used to get married to the fairies and would disappear for months before actually returning back like nothing happened.
